The operating units of swimming pools and baths and private testing organisations were invited to join the briefing session to deepen their understanding of the testing of water quality of swimming pools and baths. The Health Bureau and the Labour Affairs Bureau also sent representatives to join the briefing session and share their knowledge about the hygiene of water quality of swimming pools and baths and the use of chemicals, etc. Through the explanation of professionals, the awareness of the operating units of swimming pools and baths in Macao was enhanced and their relevant knowledge was deepened.

The briefing session was held on 27 April (Thursday) in the hall of the S. Lourenço Municipal Market Complex. During the session, the staff from the Laboratory of IACM introduced the regulations on the management of water quality and operation of swimming pools and baths, which include the monitoring of water quality by the Laboratory of IACM, regulations on operation and management, the parameter requirements of chemicals and microbes, on-site use of apparatus for parameter reading and the plan to encourage monitoring of water quality. Staff from the Labour Affairs Bureau were also invited to the briefing session to explain the safe use of chemicals, which included classification of chemicals, accidents caused by use of chemicals, common chemicals used in the treatment of water quality of swimming pools and notes about their use, such as the important points in the storage, labelling, transportation and use of chemicals, training of staff, etc., to raise the safety awareness of the trade when using chemicals.

Information about “Guidelines on hotel swimming pools” was provided on site so that the operating units could obtain it for reference. About 120 representatives were in attendance during the briefing session. Through explanations and question and answer sessions, the guests and speakers jointly shared their experience in sample testing of water quality and the operation and management of the relevant premises. The operating unit representatives all eagerly raised their questions and the atmosphere was enthusiastic.
