With the completion of the foundation work of the new sewage pumping station at Rotunda Ouvidor Arriaga of Taipa, the construction of the main structure is expected to be completed in late June. The Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) has to reconstruct and modify the existing sewers in Rotunda Ouvidor Arriaga and those in the vicinity of the new sewage pumping station, in phases, to facilitate its operation. As the first phase was initiated on March 15, residents need to take heed of the limited traffic access to the surrounding roads during the work period.
The underground pipes and cables at the construction site of the new sewage pumping station were relocated during 2016. Related auger boring, excavation, support and propping works were subsequently done in the fourth quarter. After the foundation work was completed in late February 2017, the construction of the main structure and installation of electrical and mechanical facilities of the new sewage pumping station will be carried out from March to June.
To facilitate the operation of the new sewage pumping station, existing sewers within its vicinity require reconstruction or modification. Under the coordination of the Traffic Bureau, the mentioned works will be done in phases. The first phase began on March 15 with the construction of the sewer spanning from Rotunda Ouvidor Arriaga to Avenida Olímpica. Limited traffic access to the two lanes at Rotunda Ouvidor Arriaga was maintained during the work period. In the second phase, the sewer running from Avenida Olímpica to Rua Fernão Mendes Pinto will be constructed and the mentioned roads will be partially closed off during work period. Modification of the section of sewer in Avenida Olímpica which lies between Rua Fernão Mendes and Va Nam Industrial Building will be dealt with in the third phase. At the same time, construction of a section of sewer in Rua Direita Carlos Eugénio will be launched. For the post-construction phase, the sewers will be connected to the existing sewage pumping station in Rua de Nam Keng, the new sewage pumping station and to the existing pressurized sewer in Estrada Coronel Nicolau de Mesquita. The existing sewer in Avenida Dr. Sun Yat Sen will also be connected to the new sewage pumping station.
The works are expected to last for approximately 7 months and would be completed by the fourth quarter of 2017, owing to the complexity of the underground pipe and cable networks and the necessity to coordinate the relaying of underground pipework and cables of the affected streets and roadways with the franchised utility companies. Drivers are reminded to pay attention to the road condition and temporary traffic signs and arrangements during the work period. For any inconvenience caused to residents, the IACM appeals for their understanding.
