  Tea ceremony originated in China and was spread to Japan and Korea during the Song dynasty. It became sophisticated and refined after being infused with religious elements, etiquettes and the spirit of Zen. The tea gathering of the current month details on contemporary tea ceremonies of Japan and Korea, which are actually rooted in the tea customs practiced during the Tang and Song dynasties of China and elaborates on the revival and evolution of Chinese tea ceremony in modern times. It also talks about the differences in the tea ceremony of these 3 countries.

Theme: Appreciation of Jasmine tea

  Jasmine tea leaves, also known as xiangpian (scented petals), is made from the ready- to-bloom buds of jasmine flower. When the fragrance of the flower pistils is most intense, the flower are picked and toasted together with primary treated tea leaves. The current month’s tea gathering is conducted by an invited tea connoisseur who will brief on the manufacture of jasmine tea leaves, explain how to grade jasmine tea by the fragrance and the color of the brewed tea and will demonstrate the proper way to brew jasmine tea.

  It is a kind of tea gathering in which participants, regardless of being wealthy, impoverished, of noble status or low in rank, are encouraged to share tea altogether under the spirit of “one for all, all for one”. The Macao Tea Culture House has invited Ms. Lau Sum Ling to introduce “Wu Wo tea party” to attendees and explain how it works. Participants are welcomed to bring along with them their own tea set and tea leaves to brew tea for others to share.

  Tea leaves are differentiated by their degree of fermentation and are categorized by the color of their brewed tea. The major types of tea are green tea, white tea, yellow tea, oolong tea, black tea and post-fermented tea. The guest speaker will give an overview on the manufacture of the 6 major types of tea and talk about their properties. He will teach parents how to brew a teapot of aromatic tea together with their children to improve family relation through tea-brewing.

The guest speaker will explain about the benefits of drinking tea for women and advise the most appropriate type of tea to drink.
